About Setakel

Setakel (UK) Limited is an international trading company with hubs in London, Lomé (Togo - West Africa) and Tema, Ghana. The company deals in the merchandising of tropical timbers in various forms (round or square logs, lumbers, sawn board, veneer…) and reforestation programmes in both Togo and Ghana.

Our goal is three-fold: produce a high Return on Investment for our investors, create real long-term employment for local families and help the Environment through our Programme of Reforestation in Togo and Ghana.

Right from the outset we have based our business model on commercial profitability, environmental sustainability and socially responsible investment.

Our firm has established the right connections with ODEF (Forest Development and Exploitation Department), with local governments and private owners. These local relations plus the extensive understanding of the opportunities in the sector has allowed us to develop a role as an agent and advisor to represent the commercial interest of many independent producers as well as the government. We are working on joint reforestation and logging projects with ODEF and hold Government licenses to exploit Government and private plantations in Togo. Furthermore, our license allows us to source timbers from Ghana and Benin plus other neighbouring countries in the region.

We act as a principal in most of our trading activities however, our philosophy is customer driven, not speculative. With this approach we aim at creating value for our customers by providing innovative and effective solutions for today’s market challenges and offer customers a range of value-added risk management and consulting services to meet their requirements.

Our goal is to make the transactions as secure, smooth and seamless as possible. To that end, we have in place a stringent and vigorous quality control system that makes our products distinct from the competition. Not only will we cut and transform your products to fit your requirements, we will also endeavour to deliver on time because we understand your production deadlines and constraints. In our quest to better serve our clients and for their peace of mind, we have selected SGS as partner to perform the inspection, verification and certification of our timbers.

Within our network we have associations amongst industries best in associated sectors such farming and logging equipments, freight forwarders, shipping companies, as well as commodity insurance firms allowing us to complete the cycle of trading with comfort. Furthermore, we also use this worldwide network together with our risk management expertise to identify and take advantages of pricing differences from supply and demand imbalances.

Our portfolio counts with the most sought after timbers in a great variety of origins and grades such as Teak, Mahogany, Iroko, Ebony, Eucalyptus, Cedrela or Spanish-cedar, Gmelina amongst others and it is this diversity that allows us to offer feed stocks without industrial or geographical limitations.

As a company, we are environmentally conscious and we make sure that for every tree we cut down at least another tree is planted to uphold our reforestation programme. We take sustainable farming seriously and to safeguard the forest’s biodiversity. Where possible, silviculture techniques are used in order to remain true to our environmental credentials.

We are in the process of gaining membership of various timber associations such FSC, TFT, Smartwood and others, in order to ascertain the source and legality of our products.
