Forestry

Tectona grandis or teak is one of the species we are concentrating on in our plantation.

It is an important indigenous timber species to south-east Asia and teak plantations have been established widely throughout the tropics and successfully in Togo, among other tropical countries, since 1920. Teak is one of the most sought after timbers in the world and is highly regarded for their durability.

Teak is a genus of tropical hardwood and is one of best known timber trees in the world. Teak is extensively used in outdoor furniture making and is known for its longevity. Teak is easy to identify as it has large distinctive leaves. Teak trees rapidly put on height as well as diameter and can grow up to 45 meters tall and 15-20 cm in diameter by the age of 25.

Teak predominantly is used in the manufacture of outdoor furniture, shipbuilding and whenever a hard wearing weather resistant timber is needed. Teak is easily worked and has natural oils that make it suitable for use in exposed locations, where it is durable even when not treated with oil or varnish.

Afforestation

As a forestry management company, we are planting teak trees from our own nursery to create a forest on waste land which has never been a forest. Our teak trees are planted in an ethical and environmentally responsible way (more).
